Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, qualifying taxpayers who purchase a home before Dec. 1 receive up to $8,000, or $4,000 for married individuals filing separately. FREE Credit Report

Did you know that you are entitled to get one free copy of your credit report every year? Prior to purchasing a home, it is a good idea to get a copy of your credit report. This will allow you to review any information that may not be correct.

Incorrect information contained in your credit history can be removed by filing a dispute form provided by the credit bureau. Or you can write your own request for an investigation on any inaccurate information. Within 30 days, the credit bureau will correct or delete the information or report to you why the information is correct.
